Hollywood star Kristen Stewart is poised to break new ground in her acting career with her first-ever TV series role in 'The Challenger,' a new project from Amazon MGM Studios.
Stewart will take on the role of Sally Ride, the astronaut and physicist who made history as the first American woman to journey into space. Entertainment news platform Deadline has confirmed the report.
Produced by Kyra Sedgwick’s Big Swing Productions in collaboration with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners and Stewart's Nevermind production label, 'The Challenger' brings on board a team of talented creators. The series is inspired by Meredith E. Bagby’s book 'The New Guys,' chronicling the trailblazing NASA’s 1978 class, which included women and people of color for the first time.
Eerily, three years after Ride’s 1983 space flight, she joined the Rogers Commission to investigate the tragic Challenger explosion. Ride passed away in 2012 at the age of 61 due to cancer, but her legacy continues to inspire.
