The 2024 Mumbai International Film Festival culminated with a celebration of documentary excellence. Filmmaker Nirmal Chander Dandriyal's '6-A Akash Ganga', offering a rare glimpse into the world of music legend Annapurna Devi, and Nishtha Jain’s homage to industrial heritage, 'The Golden Thread', took top honors in the national and international documentary categories.
Organized biennially by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and executed by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the festival showcases documentaries, short fiction, and animation films. This year saw a record 314 films from 59 countries, expanding its reach to cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Pune.
Awards were presented across various categories including best Indian short film, animation, debut film, and student film. Highlights included 'Salt' by Barkha Prashant Naik winning best Indian short fiction film, and 'Nirjara' by Gaurav Pati taking best Indian animation film. Esteemed guests such as Maharashtra's cultural affairs minister Sudhir Mungantiwar and actors Chhaya Kadam and Shekhar Suman graced the event.
