Inspiring Devotion: Double Amputee's 12th Journey to Amarnath

Anand Singh, a double amputee from Jaipur, undertakes his 12th pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine. Despite losing his legs in an accident in 2002, his devotion to Lord Shiva strengthens annually. Singh's determination is showcased as he navigates the pilgrimage using his hands or a palanquin.

Anand Singh from Jaipur has not let adversity hinder his devotion. Despite losing both legs in a 2002 accident, Singh embarked on his 12th pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath cave shrine, located at a staggering height of 3,880 meters.

'I started coming to Baba's darbar in 2010. I missed the yatra in 2013 due to floods in Kedarnath and for two years during the Covid pandemic,' Singh shared. Using his hands to move with a truck tyre cutout, Singh’s pilgrimage spirit remains undeterred.

Over time, Singh’s journey evolved to riding in a palanquin, highlighting the special nature of his bond with Lord Shiva. 'This bond is getting stronger every year. That's why I come here,' he said, emphasizing that he does not feel 'underprivileged' despite his condition.

The sacred yatra commenced on Saturday and will span 52 days, concluding on August 19. This annual event dates back over 150 years, its origins traced to a Muslim shepherd.
