Ved Prakash Sharma, SHO of Deoria's Kotwali police station, stated that the first incident occurred around 1.00 PM during heavy rainfall. A group, including temple priest Radheshyam Giri, sought shelter in a temple at Goplapur village. The lightning was so powerful that it pierced the temple's roof, electrocuting Giri and injuring seven others.

In a second incident, Rajnath Kushwaha (40) was fatally struck while sowing paddy in his field. District Magistrate Akhand Pratap Singh assured assistance for the victims' families. A third strike in Sant Kabir Nagar claimed Sayama (17) and injured four others in a mango orchard. Immediate medical attention was provided.
