In a celebratory gesture, the city has unveiled a yellow sign with the new name, thanks to Swift fan Aleshanee Westhoff who proposed the idea. Mayor Karin Welge expressed gratitude for the 'great idea' and confirmed the renaming in a formal letter. The city will also feature multiple 'Swiftkirchen' signs in high-traffic areas, adorned with a pink portrait of Swift.

One of Germany's poorest cities, Gelsenkirchen hopes to attract tens of thousands of fans. Plans include a 'Taylor Swift streetcar' and a special stone on the Walk of Fame. The Veltins-Arena will host the sold-out shows, providing space for up to 70,000 fans. Further concerts are planned for Hamburg and Munich.
