Shelley Duvall, the intrepid, Texas-born movie star renowned for her expressive eyes and prominent roles in the films of Robert Altman, as well as her co-starring role in Stanley Kubrick's “The Shining,” has died at the age of 75.
Duvall passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday at her residence in Blanco, Texas. This was confirmed by her longtime partner, Dan Gilroy, who cited complications of diabetes as the cause of death, as communicated by her friend and publicist Gary Springer.
“My dear, sweet, wonderful life, partner, and friend left us last night,'' Gilroy said in a heartfelt statement. “Too much suffering lately, now she's free. Fly away beautiful Shelley.” Duvall was discovered during her junior college days in Texas when members of Robert Altman's team met her at a party in Houston in 1970, marking the beginning of her illustrious career as Altman's protege.
