Days ahead of Ashadhi Ekadashi, the Maharashtra government has announced the establishment of the 'Mukhyamantri Warkari Mahamandal'. This new corporation aims to provide enhanced facilities for 'warkaris' (followers of Lord Vitthal) and 'kirtankars' (pilgrims who sing religious chants).
According to a government resolution (GR) issued by the social justice department on Sunday, the headquarters of the Mahamandal will be based in Pandharpur, a prominent town known for the revered Vitthal-Rukmini temple in Solapur district.
This initiative comes as part of preparations for Ashadhi Ekadashi, which will be observed on July 17. The corporation will focus on developing pilgrim sites, providing medical assistance, food, security, and insurance to the 'warkaris' and 'kirtankars'.
Additionally, efforts will be made to improve the roads used for 'palkhi' or palanquin processions and to reduce pollution in the Chandrabhaga, Indrayani, and Godavari rivers. The state government also announced a toll exemption for vehicles carrying devotees to Pandharpur from July 3 to July 21.
