Kate, the Princess of Wales, handed Carlos Alcaraz the champion's trophy after the Wimbledon men's final at the All England Club in only her second public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis.

Kate, wife of heir to the throne Prince William, was greeted by a standing ovation when she arrived at Centre Court to watch Alcaraz's victory over Novak Djokovic. Following the trophy ceremony, the princess and Alcaraz conversed inside the tournament's main stadium.

“You played so well,” Kate told him. “Enjoy the win.” Dressed in a purple dress, one of Wimbledon's official colors, Kate descended from the stands to present the trophies, fulfilling her role as a patron of the All England Club.

She shook hands with some tournament ball kids, exchanged words with both players, and applauded Alcaraz after presenting him the winner's trophy for the second successive year. “It was a privilege to be in her presence again,” Djokovic said. “It's very positive to see her in good health.''

Accompanied by her 9-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, Kate arrived at the event around half an hour before the final's scheduled start. They mingled with notable figures, including 2021 U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu and other young British players. The Royal Box hosted Kate's sister Pippa Matthews, Tom Cruise, Benedict Cumberbatch, and several past Wimbledon champions like Rod Laver and Andre Agassi.

Kate has been the patron of the All England Club since 2016 and revealed in March her battle with cancer, undergoing chemotherapy. Her lone public appearance before Wimbledon was attending last month's birthday parade for King Charles III, where she mentioned she was making good progress. Prince William, a regular at Wimbledon finals, was in Germany to watch England in the men's soccer European Championship final. Queen Camilla visited Wimbledon earlier in the week.
