Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Thursday lauded journalists, referring to them as society's "guardians" and the fourth pillar of democracy.
He emphasized their crucial role in raising public awareness and delivering news with impartiality and truth.
Sharma affirmed the state government's commitment to empower fearless journalists.
In a meeting with journalists at the chief minister's residence, Sharma likened their contributions to those of the administration, politics, and police, all working towards Rajasthan's development.
"We have always believed in recognizing exemplary journalism. Therefore, in this year's state budget, the government has announced the Late Shri Bishan Singh Shekhawat Journalism Award for journalists displaying outstanding work," Sharma stated.
Recalling Shekhawat's legacy, Sharma commended his impactful rural journalism, highlighting his 'Aao Gaon Chalein' column that illustrated village life and social traditions.
Sharma underscored Shekhawat's dedication to bringing the voices of rural employees to the government's attention.
