India Hosts Historic 46th World Heritage Committee Session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 46th World Heritage Committee session, a significant UNESCO event hosted by India for the first time. The event, attended by over 2,000 delegates from more than 150 countries, will discuss new heritage site nominations, conservation reports, and showcase India's cultural and technological advancements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee on Sunday, marking the first time India has hosted this prominent UNESCO event from July 21-31.

UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay attended the inauguration at Bharat Mandapam. Modi addressed more than 2,000 delegates from over 150 countries.

Over the 11-day session, delegates will discuss new nominations for the World Heritage List, conservation reports of 124 existing heritage sites, and utilization of the World Heritage Fund. India's 'Moidams' nomination is under consideration for cultural property status.

India curated various exhibitions, including 'Incredible India', to display its culture and digital expertise. Immersive AR and VR experiences will highlight three key heritage sites. This session also emphasizes collaborative and sustainable heritage management through forums.

India, a member of the 21-nation WHC since 2021, has 42 properties on the World Heritage List and 57 on the tentative list, showcasing its rich cultural and natural heritage.
