Disney Reaches Tentative Agreement With Workers' Unions
Disney has reached a tentative deal with four unions representing 14,000 workers at its California theme parks. The agreement follows months of negotiations and a potential strike authorization. Workers will vote on the deal Monday. Disneyland Resort, which includes Disneyland and other attractions, welcomed the tentative deal.
Disney has reached a tentative agreement with four unions representing thousands of workers at its California theme parks, including ride operators, candy makers, and parking attendants.
The union coalition announced early Wednesday that 14,000 workers will vote on Monday. No other details were provided. The deal follows the workers' overwhelming authorization of a potential strike after months of negotiations over wages, sick leave, and benefits.
'We have shown Disney that we are the true magic makers of the park, and today's agreement proves that when workers stand together for what they deserve, we win,' the coalition said in a statement.
Most of the more than 35,000 Disneyland Resort workers are union members. The resort includes Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, and Downtown Disney in Anaheim.
Disneyland, the world's second-most visited theme park, welcomed the agreement. This follows Anaheim's approval of a massive expansion earlier this year.
'We care deeply about the well-being of our cast members and are pleased to reach a tentative agreement addressing their key concerns while positioning Disneyland Resort for growth and job creation,' said resort spokesperson Jessica Good.
