Kangana Ranaut Criticizes Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony for Controversial Drag Queen Act
Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has sharply criticized the Paris Olympics organizers for including a drag queen performance that parodied Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper' during the opening ceremony. The act, featuring 18 performers and lasting nearly four hours, drew significant social media backlash for its perceived disrespect towards Christianity.
Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has launched a scathing critique against the Paris Olympics organizers over their inclusion of a controversial drag queen act in the opening ceremony. The act, perceived as a parody of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous painting ‘The Last Supper,’ has sparked significant backlash on social media. Ranaut took to Instagram Stories to label the performance as a 'hyper-sexualised, blasphemous rendition' of the iconic artwork.
The opening ceremony, which lasted nearly four hours, featured 18 drag performers, including well-known Drag Race France queens. Poses from the act were staged against the scenic backdrop of the Seine River and Eiffel Tower, with a key segment involving a scantily dressed man painted in blue and curled up inside a massive serving tray. Ranaut, recently elected to the Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket, slammed the organizers further for allegedly including a child in the performance.
Ranaut's critique was echoed by billionaire Elon Musk, who termed the act 'extremely disrespectful to Christians' in a post on the social media platform X. Responding to the fallout, the Paris Olympics Committee explained that the performance was an interpretation of the Greek God Dionysus, aimed at highlighting the absurdity of violence between human beings. The Paris Olympics will continue until August 11.
