Bengal TV Industry Back to Action After Cease Work Ends

Shooting for Bengali TV serials resumed in Kolkata after a cease work by directors ended thanks to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's intervention. Directors, actors, and technicians returned to studio floors. A high-powered committee will address the ongoing issues in the industry, ensuring smooth operations onward.

Shooting for Bengali television serials in the Bengal entertainment industry resumed in and around Kolkata on Wednesday, following the end of the indefinite cease work by directors. This resolution was achieved after the intervention of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The studio floors buzzed back to life after a two-day halt, as directors, actors, and technicians returned to work. A spokesperson for the West Bengal Motion Pictures Artists Forum informed PTI that shooting across various studios had commenced.

President of the Federation of Cine Technicians’ Workers of Eastern India (FCTWEI), Swarup Biswas, confirmed that technicians would be back on set from Wednesday. A high-powered committee, suggested by Banerjee, will comprise members such as director Goutam Ghosh, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, and minister Arup Biswas, among others. The committee aims to resolve the existing issues promptly.

The two-day stoppage happened after technicians refused to work under a filmmaker debarred by the federation for allegedly breaching norms. The debarred filmmaker, Rahool Mukherjee, will rejoin projects soon. The industry will work cohesively to avoid further disruptions.
