Tata Play Removes Sony Channels Amidst Controversy

Tata Play has started removing Sony Pictures Network India channels from its bouquets citing lower viewership. SPNI opposes this decision, calling it arbitrary and misleading. Tata Play, formerly known as Tata Sky, has initiated the removal of Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI) channels from its service offerings, citing lower viewership levels as the primary reason.

According to Harit Nagpal, Tata Play's Managing Director and CEO, the platform is streamlining its channel packs by eliminating less-watched channels and adjusting monthly charges accordingly. Subscribers can easily reinstate any removed channels by giving a missed call.

SPNI strongly opposes the move, labeling it as 'arbitrary' and without notice. The broadcaster alleged the decision might be retaliatory in nature, following recent audits that revealed discrepancies in Tata Play's subscriber management system.
