Andi Murez: Balancing Olympic Dreams and Medical Ambitions

Israeli Olympian Andi Murez is set to transition from her third Olympic appearance to beginning a psychiatry residency at the Mayo Clinic. Israeli Olympian Andi Murez won't have any time to stick around Paris and see the sights. When the veteran swimmer wraps up her third Olympics this week, she will head almost straight to Minnesota to begin her next major project: She's starting her residency programme in psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic. She’s already running a little late.

With aspirations to implement a national mental health program for all of Israel's teams, Murez's aim is timely given the Middle East crisis. “After the war, there will be a huge need in addition to sports stress,” said Israel swimming's technical advisor David Marsh.

Murez, 32, a sprint freestyle specialist, shoulders her country's hopes in the 4x100-meter mixed medley relay preliminary heats at the Paris Games. Selected to carry Israel's flag in the opening ceremony, Murez has adeptly balanced her medical studies and professional swimming, graduating from Tel Aviv University in 2023.
