In a significant ruling, the Bombay High Court has dismissed a 2016 drugs case against former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni. The court termed the proceedings as frivolous and vexatious, stating that continuing the case would amount to an abuse of the judicial process.

A division bench comprising Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande, in their order dated July 22, pointed out that the evidence gathered did not prima facie constitute any offense against Kulkarni. The copy of the order was made available on Wednesday.

The court observed that Kulkarni’s mere presence at a purported conspiracy meeting in Kenya was not sufficient to sustain the charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Consequently, the FIR registered by Thane police in 2016 has been quashed.
