Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's Legacy Lives On Through Medical Research

The mortal remains of former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will be donated to NRS Medical College for research. His body, wrapped in the CPI(M)'s red flag, began its final journey attended by family, political leaders, and admirers. Bhattacharjee had also donated his eyes.

The mortal remains of former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will be handed over to NRS Medical College and Hospital on Friday for research purposes, according to a CPI(M) official.

On Thursday, Bhattacharjee's body, adorned with the CPI(M)'s red flag, was moved from his modest two-room residence at Palm Avenue in south Kolkata to Peace World mortuary.

Governor C V Ananda Bose, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and other prominent figures visited the residence to pay their respects. Bhattacharjee's wife Mira, accompanied by party leaders and supporters, followed the hearse with the mortal remains before boarding a car.

On Friday morning, the body will be taken to the West Bengal Assembly and then to the CPI(M) state headquarters Muzaffar Ahmed Bhavan for public homage. It will later be moved to the DYFI headquarters before finally being handed over to NRS Medical College for research. Bhattacharjee had also donated his eyes, a party official confirmed.
