Maryam Nawaz, Chief Minister of Punjab, Pakistan, announced a 10 crore (PKR) cash prize and a sports city in Khanewal for javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, who won Olympic gold in Paris. Despite facing resource scarcity, Nadeem hopes his victory will aid in building a proper academy for athletes in his rural area.
Chief Minister of Pakistan's Punjab province, Maryam Nawaz, has announced a 10 crore (PKR) cash prize for javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, who achieved an Olympic record and won gold in Paris. This is a significant turnaround for Nadeem, who had to seek crowd funding for a new javelin months before the Games.
Nawaz also revealed plans to build a sports city named after the athlete in his hometown of Khanewal. Despite his previous victories at the Commonwealth Games and World Championship, Nadeem struggled with resource scarcity, highlighting the difficulties faced by non-cricket athletes in Pakistan.
Nadeem expressed a deep desire to establish proper academies for track and field athletes in Punjab. His father shared that Nadeem's first message home was his commitment to building an academy for young athletes in their rural area, inspired by his own challenges and recent Olympic success.
