External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday, underlining New Delhi's continued commitment to strengthen India-Maldives relations for the mutual benefit of the two nations and the broader region.

Jaishankar, during his three-day official visit to the Maldives, aimed to reset the bilateral relationship in the context of Muizzu's pro-China administration, which posed challenges since he took office last year.

The visit included significant talks with Maldivian Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon on security cooperation and regional peace amidst China's increasing presence in the archipelago. This is Jaishankar's first visit to the Maldives since his reappointment in 2024.
