India Deepens Ties with Maldives: Jaishankar Highlights Strategic Bond

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the importance of India’s relationship with the Maldives, calling the nation 'no ordinary neighbour'. During his visit, he discussed bilateral relations, the significance of the Indian diaspora, and inaugurated a major water and sanitation project, stressing the practical expressions of India's friendship.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar underscored the strategic importance of the Maldives to India, stating that the archipelagic nation is 'no ordinary neighbour'.

During his visit, Jaishankar met with Maldivian President Mohammad Muizzu and reiterated India's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. He also virtually inaugurated a $110 million water and sanitation project benefiting 28 islands.

Addressing the Indian expatriate community, Jaishankar highlighted the significant contributions of the Indian diaspora in sectors such as health, education, and construction, while also acknowledging their challenges and seeking avenues for resolving them.
