Tragedy struck in Odisha’s Kendrapara district on Thursday as two minor siblings were burnt alive in a devastating house fire, local police reported. The blaze, suspected to be ignited by either an LPG cylinder leak or a short circuit, engulfed their home in Balarampur village under the jurisdiction of Rajnagar police station.
The victims, identified as Anupama Sahani (11) and her younger brother Rishi (9), met their untimely end while their parents were away at the market procuring rations. The inferno's intensity overwhelmed local residents and fire brigade personnel, who were unable to extinguish the flames in time to save the children. Authorities later recovered the charred remains from the destroyed house.
An official investigation is underway with assistance from fire department specialists to ascertain the exact cause of the blaze. Meanwhile, the Kendrapara district administration has expressed heartfelt condolences and has sanctioned an ex gratia payment of Rs 60,000 to the bereaved family.
