Bollywood star Taapsee Pannu, known for her forthright opinions, discussed the reluctance of actors to express political views in a recent conversation with ANI. She noted that actors avoid political commentary to evade potential backlash, admitting, “People want to stay quiet because they feel there will be a problem.”
Pannu, a vocal critic of nepotism and other industry challenges, pointed out the public's perception of actors as intellectually lacking, particularly women. She remarked, “Actors are believed to have low IQ, and it’s a problem whether or not they express an opinion.”
Addressing the gender eligibility issue involving Algerian boxer Imane Khelif at the Paris Olympics 2024, Pannu linked it to the narrative of her film 'Rashmi Rocket.' Directed by Akarsh Khurana, the film tackles the contentious topic of gender testing in sports, a subject close to Pannu’s heart.
In 'Rashmi Rocket,' Pannu portrays a female athlete barred from competing due to high testosterone levels. She highlighted the film's argument questioning why naturally high testosterone disqualifies athletes, contrasting it with other inherent biological advantages. “It’s not like I’ve taken supplements… why only someone with a higher level of testosterone is banned?” she questioned.
Pannu’s prolific career includes memorable performances in films like ‘Pink,’ ‘Thappad,’ and ‘Shabaash Mithu.’ Despite debuting with ‘Chashme Baddoor’ in 2013, it was her roles in ‘Baby’ and ‘Pink’ that catapulted her to prominence. Her work continues to address significant societal issues, earning critical acclaim and public admiration.
