Tech Magnate Mike Lynch Among Victims in Superyacht Disaster off Sicilian Coast

British tech magnate Mike Lynch is among five victims recovered from the wreckage of a superyacht off the Sicilian coast. The yacht, believed to be struck by a waterspout, sank rapidly during a storm while moored offshore. Fifteen people survived, but one woman remains missing.

The Italian coast guard announced Thursday that the body of British tech magnate Mike Lynch has been found among the wreckage of a superyacht off the coast of Sicily. The so-called 'unsinkable' yacht succumbed to the sea's fury, resulting in five fatalities.

Rescue crews recovered the bodies of Lynch and four others, while one woman remains unaccounted for. The yacht, The Bayesian, measuring 56 meters (184 feet) and flying the British flag, encountered a devastating waterspout early Monday, leading to its rapid sinking.

Fifteen of the 22 people on board survived the ordeal. Among them was a mother who bravely held her 1-year-old baby above the waves to keep the child safe. Lynch, recently acquitted of fraud charges, had been celebrating his legal victory with his defense team when tragedy struck.
