Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve's impressive body of work will be showcased at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF), reports The Hollywood Reporter. As a key highlight, Villeneuve will feature in a career retrospective hosted by the festival.
The SBIFF Riviera Theatre, which has been the festival's year-round venue since its acquisition in 2016, will screen all 11 of Villeneuve's films between October 18 and October 24. The filmmaker is scheduled for a personal appearance and Q&A session on October 20.
Villeneuve, 56, has significantly influenced global cinema over the past 15 years. His early Canadian productions, including the Oscar-nominated 'Incendies' (2010), helped cement his international reputation. His expansive filmography includes critically acclaimed titles like 'Prisoners' (2013), 'Sicario' (2015), 'Arrival' (2016), 'Blade Runner 2049' (2017), and 'Dune' (2021), with 'Dune: Part Two' set for 2024 release.
“Denis has become an unquestionable modern master of cinema, and all of his films demand to be seen on the big screen because they're visceral spectacles,” SBIFF's executive director Roger Durling stated. “We are thrilled to present his films again and to host Denis,” Durling added, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
