The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved the BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) policy, signaling a significant step towards high-performance biomanufacturing under the Department of Biotechnology.
As stated by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the policy will drive innovation in research, development, and entrepreneurship across various thematic sectors.
This initiative aims to accelerate technological advancements and commercialization by establishing biomanufacturing hubs, bio-AI centers, and biofoundries. It will also enhance India's skilled workforce and create numerous job opportunities, prioritizing a regenerative bioeconomy model for green growth.
The official statement emphasized that the policy would strengthen government initiatives like the 'Net Zero' carbon economy and 'Lifestyle for Environment,' propelling India towards accelerated 'Green Growth' through the promotion of a 'Circular Bioeconomy.'
The BioE3 Policy envisions a sustainable, innovative, and responsive future to global challenges, ushering a new era of industrial biology to tackle critical issues such as climate change mitigation, food security, and human health.
Building a resilient biomanufacturing ecosystem is crucial for advancing bio-based product development, covering sectors like biochemicals, biopolymers, functional foods, precision biotherapeutics, climate-resilient agriculture, carbon capture, and marine and space research.
