The fallout from the Justice K Hema Committee report on harassment in the Malayalam film industry intensified as a case was charged against renowned filmmaker Ranjith. Several female actors disclosed alarming instances of mistreatment by male counterparts.
Ranjith faces charges under IPC Section 354 after a Bengali actress alleged he touched her inappropriately in 2009. Meanwhile, actress Minu Muneer accused prominent actors M Mukesh, Jayasurya, and others of abuse in 2013.
The allegations have put the CPM-led Kerala government under scrutiny. Opposition parties demand firm actions while a special investigation team is now probing the extensive claims of misconduct revealed by the Justice Hema Committee report.
