Ex-PM Deve Gowda Revisits Historic Uri Hydroelectric Project

The 91-year-old leader reminisced about the project's revival and its current status as a profitable enterprise feeding power to neighboring states.

H D Deve Gowda, the former Prime Minister of India and JD(S) supremo, revisited the Uri Hydroelectric Project in Kashmir on Thursday. Gowda, who had inaugurated the project during his tenure in 1997, was nostalgic as he toured the site 27 years later.

At 91 years old, Gowda traveled by train from Srinagar to Baramulla, a railway line he had sanctioned as Prime Minister. Reflecting on the visit, he shared photographs and videos, highlighting the project's transformation into a profit-making enterprise that supplies power to neighboring states.

The JD(S) party also shared visual updates of Gowda's visit. The statement from JD(S) underlined the significance of the 28 years since Gowda's prime ministerial term and his personal witnessing of the thriving Uri hydropower plant.
