A couple from Gujarat's Sabarkantha district experienced a close brush with danger as they spent nearly two hours atop their submerged car after being swept away by the Karol river on Sunday, officials reported.
Local fire officials managed to rescue the couple from their precarious position after the water levels subsided. Initial rescue efforts were thwarted by strong river currents in Idar town.
The car, pushed approximately 1.5 km from the causeway they were attempting to cross, was nearly fully submerged with only its roof visible. The couple, Suresh Mistry and his wife, climbed onto the car's roof, waiting for two hours before being safely rescued. The operation attracted local onlookers who gathered and recorded the dramatic scene.
