Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein underwent emergency heart surgery following chest pains at a New York City jail, according to unnamed sources cited by ABC News.
The 72-year-old is set to appear in court this week as prosecutors present evidence to secure a new indictment on sex crime charges. Weinstein, who denies non-consensual sexual encounters, had his February 2020 rape conviction overturned in April due to trial improprieties.
Weinstein's spokesperson has not responded to requests for comment from Reuters. The producer's numerous health issues include diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid retention in his heart and lungs, and a recent bout with COVID-19 and double pneumonia, ABC reported.
