The Congress' Kedarnath Pratishtha Raksha Yatra ended on a solemn note at Kedarnath Dham with a ceremonial 'Jalabhishek' of Baba Kedar. This 252 km padayatra, which began on July 24 at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar, saw its completion despite disruptions caused by a cloudburst.
State Congress Committee president Karan Mahara, who led the yatra, expressed his satisfaction upon its conclusion but emphasized that the struggle to uphold the temple's prestige continues. He outlined unresolved issues including the renaming of Krishna Mai cave, the disclosure of misappropriated gold, and preventing potentially disruptive construction projects.
In light of these ongoing concerns, Mahara called for the Prime Minister's apology and corrective actions. He also engaged with local pilgrim priests and businessmen to address their grievances, urging prompt solutions to prevent future discord. The yatra initially began as a protest against plans to build a Kedarnath replica temple in Delhi, a project that has since been scrapped following the public outcry.
