This wedding season in India is projected to see an estimated 4.5 lakh weddings, generating a business turnover of Rs 1.5 lakh crore. According to a study by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the retail sector will largely benefit, with a significant shift towards Indian-made products over foreign goods.
Praveen Khandelwal, MP and CAIT’s national secretary general, emphasized that consumers are increasingly prioritizing Indian products, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for Local' and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
Khandelwal also noted an emerging trend of increased spending on social media services for weddings this year. The study further revealed that this wedding season, commencing November 12, will see 48 lakh weddings across the country, generating Rs 5.9 lakh crore in business—up from last year's Rs 4.25 lakh crore.
In Delhi, key business sectors such as clothing, jewellery, banquet halls, hotels, event management, and catering are forecasted to experience substantial growth, the study highlighted.
