The Bengal Junior Doctors' Front organized a significant rally on Mahalaya, marking the onset of Devi Paksha, starting at College Street and heading towards Esplanade.

The gathering saw a large turnout of medical practitioners and common people, all calling for justice for the doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at the state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.

In addition to seeking justice for the slain doctor, the participants protested the pervasive culture of fear and intimidation within the state's medical system. The rally was marked by national flags, placards bearing images of freedom fighters, and slogans demanding justice.

''We are not in a 'Puja' or 'Utsav' mood, and we will continue protesting on the streets for Abhaya's justice as long as our sister doesn't get justice. Our movement will not stop until justice is served,'' a protestor declared.

Their demands include enhanced safety measures for hospital staff, an issue which has sparked widespread support and protests.

''Today is the 52nd day of our protest, and we are still facing attacks. There is no positive response from the state government toward meeting our safety and security demands,'' said Aniket Mahato, a junior doctor involved in the agitation.
