Honoring History: A Statue for Babu Chabilal Upadhyaya

A statue of Babu Chabilal Upadhyaya, Gorkha community leader and freedom fighter, will be erected in Guwahati by the Assam state government. The initiative, directed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, involves consultations with Upadhyaya's family to ensure their perspectives are considered in the statue's design and installation.

The Assam government is set to commemorate Babu Chabilal Upadhyaya, a prominent Gorkha leader, with a statue in Guwahati.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority CEO to find a significant site for the statue, and ensure Upadhyaya's family's views are included in the project planning.

Upadhyaya, instrumental in founding the Assam Association and later becoming the first president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, played a key role in India's freedom struggle.
