The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) is marking the 135th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru with a series of educational programs across the Union Territory. These events aim to showcase the legacy of India's first prime minister and educate children about his contributions to the nation.
In response to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government's alleged efforts to systematically diminish the history of India's independence movement, senior Congress leaders assembled in various locations to honor Nehru. The gatherings included floral tributes, the national anthem, and discussions on Nehru's enduring influence on the country's path towards unity and secularism.
Celebrating Nehru's birth anniversary as Children's Day, JKPCC emphasizes Nehru's deep commitment to children's education and welfare. JKPCC President Tariq Hamid Karra voiced concerns over the erasure of historical figures from the academic curriculum, stressing the need to present these histories to younger generations and counter divisive politics.
