In a surprising turn of events, Director Kiran Rao's film 'Laapataa Ladies', which was selected as India's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards, has failed to advance in the Oscars race. The highly anticipated movie was unable to secure a spot on the prestigious shortlist announced by the Academy.

In a statement released by Jio Studios and Kiran Rao's Kindling Productions, the filmmakers expressed their disappointment while simultaneously thanking their supporters and the jury for their unwavering faith in the project. "Though 'Laapataa Ladies (Lost Ladies)' did not make it to the shortlist this year, we are immensely grateful for the incredible support and belief we've received throughout this journey," the statement read.

The production teams, including Aamir Khan Productions, took the opportunity to extend their gratitude to the Academy members and the FFI jury for considering their film. They also expressed honor at being part of the esteemed selection process alongside some of the world's finest films. While celebrating the winning entries, the makers remain optimistic about creating more impactful stories in the future.
