In a ceremony graced by Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro, Hollywood icon Tom Cruise was awarded the Department of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award. This accolade, the highest for a civilian outside the Navy, celebrates Cruise's portrayal of naval aviators in cinema, as reported by People.

Cruise's recent blockbuster, 'Top Gun: Maverick,' directed by Joseph Kosinski, not only paid homage to the 1986 classic but also sparked renewed interest in naval aviation among younger audiences. Released in 2022, the sequel has been credited with both nostalgic and educational impact, promoting Navy careers, as per a press release.

The award was presented at Longcross Film Studios in Chertsey, Surrey, England, where Cruise expressed deep gratitude. "To lead is to serve," he stated, highlighting his appreciation for service members and attributing the success of his films to the collaborative efforts of cast and crew.

The Defense Public Service award has been previously given to other Hollywood legends such as Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks for their work on 'Saving Private Ryan.' Cruise joins this distinguished group, having inspired many to consider naval and marine careers, according to Del Toro.

Alongside plans for 'Top Gun 3,' confirming a continuation of the franchise he helped elevate, Cruise is also gearing up for the eighth installment of another action series, 'The Final Reckoning,' set for release in May 2025.
