In a poignant incident highlighting the legacy of war heroes, the family of Param Vir Chakra recipient Abdul Hamid has voiced their strong displeasure over the removal of his name from the entrance of a primary school in Ghazipur, where he studied during his formative years.
The school, located in Dhamupur village, was recently renamed 'PM Shri Composite School' following a repainting job, as confirmed by officials. Jameel Ahmed, the grandson of Abdul Hamid, explained that the entrance was repainted with the new name, 'PM Shri Composite School', effectively replacing 'Shaheed Hamid Vidyalaya'.
Despite assurances from Basic Education Officer Hemant Rao that Abdul Hamid's name had been painted on an external wall, the family expressed dissatisfaction, demanding its restoration at the entrance. Hamid, recognized for destroying Patton tanks during the 1965 India-Pakistan war, had posthumously received the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military honor.
