Cheetahs Roam Free: A Milestone for Kuno National Park

Five cheetahs, including Jwala and her four cubs, have been released into the wild at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The park now hosts a total of 12 wild cheetahs, marking a significant step in the intercontinental translocation effort initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022.

In a pioneering move, five cheetahs were recently released into the wild at Kuno National Park, located in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district. This event marks a notable increase in the park's wild cheetah population, now totaling 12.

Jwala, a cheetah from Namibia, along with her four cubs, was relocated from their enclosures, highlighting the success of this ambitious conservation project. This brings the park's cheetah count to 26, inclusive of South African and Namibian cheetahs and those born in India.

The translocation initiative, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the first release in 2022, represents the world's first intercontinental cheetah relocation effort, aiming to revive cheetah populations and biodiversity in India.
