Murals Speak Volumes: Art for Disaster Preparedness in Wayanad

A three-day mural painting event was recently held in Wayanad to disseminate vital information on disaster preparedness through art. The initiative was organized by Humane World for Animals India in collaboration with the Fireflies NGO.
With support from the District Disaster Management Authority and the Animal Husbandry Department, the event transformed walls at two key locations into canvases. About 20 artists from across Kerala volunteered to create vibrant murals, each conveying essential disaster preparedness practices for animals.
The artworks highlighted important steps like preparing emergency medical kits, ensuring animals are untethered during emergencies, and identifying clear evacuation routes. Residents, school children, and community members engaged with the art, amplifying the message on the importance of animal safety during disasters.
