Dr. Ghulam Sibtain Masoodi, a distinguished figure and father-in-law of the Hurriyat Conference chairman, passed away at the age of 80 following a long illness. His passing was confirmed by a statement from Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's office on Thursday.
Although the family intended to hold Masoodi's funeral prayer at Jama Masjid, authorities reportedly sealed its gates and cordoned off the area, preventing the ceremony. The Mirwaiz's office issued a statement condemning the use of force during such solemn occasions.
Masoodi, a former physician who spent significant years in the United States, will be buried in his ancestral graveyard in Khrew, Pulwama district, marking the end of his remarkable life's journey.
