Following India's ICC Champions Trophy win, a late-night motorcycle rally in Gujarat's Gandhinagar district escalated into violence, leading to the detention of 11 people, police reported on Monday.
The rally, organized in Dehgam town after India's victory against New Zealand, faced trouble when it passed a mosque in a minority-dominated area around 10:30 pm. Some bikers were reportedly racing and blaring horns, inciting the ire of around 15 individuals inside the mosque, who then hurled abuses and attempted to attack the bikers with sticks.
Deputy Superintendent of Police P N Vanda stated that most bikers left the scene after the confrontation, but five to six abandoned their motorcycles, which were subsequently damaged. An FIR has been lodged, and investigation is underway, with nine individuals named in the FIR facing charges for unlawful assembly, rioting, and causing damage to property under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
