The Last Kingdom Season 4 has been officially confirmed, which means, the battle will be continued. Thanks to Netflix for confirming the fourth season last December, giving a ray of hope to historical fiction lovers who were looking forward to some updates on its continuation.

However, The Last Kingdom Season 4’s production is yet to start. While judging by the series’ previous season scheduling, it is likely to take the summer of 2020 for new episodes to stream on Netflix. The delay seems to continue recently as some of the important actors are involved in some other projects.

As far as the characters in The Last Kingdom Season 4 are concerned, you can expect to see Alexander Dreymon, David Dawson, Emily Cox and Ian Hart (amongst many other actors) to play the roles of Uhtred of Bebbanburg, King Alfred, Brida and Beocca respectively. The returning of Eliza Butterworth as Aelswith looks promising as she received credits for her acting in almost every episode so far aired. Unfortunately, everyone’s favourite Ragnar the Younger (played by Tobias Santelmann) won’t be seen in the plot of Season 4 as he was killed by Aethelwold (Harry McEntire).

After the announcement for another season of historical fiction television series in December last year, further updates on it or the production process paused that started wondering what Carnival Film and Television has in store. However, a new update states that the plot for Season 4 will have 10 episodes that will be based on seventh and eighth instalments of The Saxon Stories novel’s The Pagan Lord and The Empty Throne by the English author Bernard Cornwell.

With the demise of King Alfred and a few other important characters in The Last Kingdom Season 3, Season 4 is likely to show new faces to the viewers. The critics and several fans have compared the show with Game of Thrones based on its genre and theme. Meanwhile, you can watch the series’ Season 1 to 3 on Netflix.
