Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stirred historical debates by affirming that Sambhal's origins trace back 5,000 years, preceding the inception of Islam by 2,000 years. His statements come amid ongoing controversies regarding a mosque believed to have been constructed on a pre-existing Hindu temple site.

During an event at Lucknow, Adityanath pointed to the destruction of the Vishnu temple in Sambhal in 1526, attributing it to Mir Baqi, under the orders of Mughal emperor Babur. Recent excavations have reportedly uncovered multiple pilgrimage sites, sparking tensions and protests linked to the mosque's construction.

Addressing cultural heritage and unity, Adityanath urged leaders to embrace Indian Vedic traditions, condemning efforts to create religious and caste-based divisions. He lauded India’s rising global stature, underscoring support for the public during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. The chief minister expressed pride in his saffron identity, foreseeing it as a future global symbol.
