In a candid revelation, actress Amanda Seyfried shed light on the stalled progress of 'Mamma Mia! 3', ahead of her limited series premiere, 'Long Bright River', where she holds an executive producer role. The beloved American actress disclosed that 'Mamma Mia! 3' is being held back due to Universal's prior commitment to releasing 'Wicked 2'. Seyfried commented on this scheduling dilemma, stating, 'Producer Judy Craymer is always working on it, but Universal still has to release Wicked 2. The first Wicked had to stall when Mamma Mia! 2 was getting made,' a statement supported by reports from People magazine.

Further expanding on the matter, Seyfried suggested that musicals tend to create an 'either/or situation,' and she holds a theory that Universal, confident in the eventual creation of the film, is not hastening its production. The costs associated with the project also present a significant obstacle. 'And it's just going to cost double,' Seyfried quipped while remaining optimistic about the project surpassing financial and logistical challenges.

According to her, the defining feature of the 'Mamma Mia!' franchise is its remarkable ensemble cast including icons such as Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. The musical storyline unfolds around Seyfried’s character, Sophie, as she orchestrates a reunion with potential paternal figures on a picturesque Greek island. Meanwhile, Christine Baranski mentioned in August 2024 that Craymer is actively planning the third installment, suggesting an eventual continuation of the beloved musical comedy saga.
