The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has demolished a studio in Khar, Mumbai, following allegations of building violations. The action took place a day after the studio and its location, the Habitat studio and Unicontinental hotel, were vandalized by Shiv Sena workers angered by content in comedian Kunal Kamra's show.
A civic official stated that the studio, which was situated in the hotel's basement, lacked the necessary civic permissions. The demolition involved removing a temporary shed and other structures. The BMC plans to further inspect the hotel for compliance with approved building plans.
Habitat Studio, the venue for Kamra's controversial performance, announced a temporary shutdown, citing concerns about being unjustly targeted. The studio has invited artists and stakeholders for discussions to safeguard free expression without jeopardizing their facility. Controversy also surrounds the venue's hosting of another contentious show, 'India's Got Latent'.
