Barry Jenkins, the Academy Award-winning director, is joining forces with Hollywood star Zendaya for a new biographical musical film titled 'Be My Baby'. This film, which highlights the life of the late American singer Ronnie Spector, is set to offer a more personal view rather than the standard career-centered biopic.
The film's screenplay, penned by Dave Kajganich, takes inspiration from Spector's 1990 memoir and aims to vividly portray her personal and professional journey, as well as her troubled relationship with producer Phil Spector. Known for being the lead singer of 'The Ronettes', Ronnie gained fame in the 1960s before marrying Phil Spector.
The production, a collaboration with A24, is Zendaya's third project with the company. 'Be My Baby' will be produced by Zendaya alongside Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Mark Itkin, and Tom Shelly. The film also aims to captivate audiences by venturing beyond plot-driven narratives, delving into the real-life experiences of a pop music icon.
