In a tragic incident at a closed ski resort hotel in northwest Turkiye, Olympic skier Berkin Usta and his father, Yahya Usta, lost their lives due to a fire. The blaze erupted early morning at the Kervansaray Hotel in Uludag, Bursa province.
The fire, which started in the cafeteria, took fire crews two hours to control, leaving the upper floors gutted. The hotel was devoid of guests at the time, though 12 staff members were present, with several hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. Authorities are probing the reasons behind the presence of the Usta family at the hotel.
This incident comes just two months after another devastating fire at the Grand Kartal hotel in Bolu province, which claimed 79 lives. Investigations continue, with recent arrests made related to the Bolu fire, highlighting a pattern of tragic events in Turkiye's winter resorts.
