The Malayalam film industry mourns the loss of veteran actor Shanawas, who passed away at 71 due to prolonged health issues. He died on Monday night at a private hospital, family sources confirmed.

Shanawas, son of the renowned actor Prem Nazir, had a prolific career in the Malayalam film industry. He debuted in the Balachandra Menon-directed 'Premageethangal' and went on to appear in more than 50 films, including notable titles such as 'Mazhanilavu', 'Neelagiri', and 'Manithali'.

After a hiatus, Shanawas made a noteworthy return to cinema with the Mohanlal-starrer 'China Town'. His last appearance was in Prithviraj's blockbuster movie 'Janaganamana'. His death has elicited condolences from across the community, including from General Education Minister V Sivankutty.
