During the Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations in Telangana, a tragic incident occurred, leading to the electrocution of five individuals and injuries to four others. The mishap took place when a chariot, part of the religious procession, came into contact with overhead electrical wires.
The unfortunate accident has spurred local authorities into action. Telangana IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for each bereaved family and assured that all medical expenses for the injured would be covered by the government. A detailed inquiry, supervised by the District Collector, has been ordered to determine the causes of the incident and hold responsible parties accountable.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures regarding electrical cables in public spaces, with calls for urgent reviews across Greater Hyderabad. In response, residents have voiced their frustration over previous warnings about dangling wires that went unaddressed. Officials from Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company have been directed to focus on preventing future tragedies.
