Murajapam-Lakshadeepa Festival: A Glorious Celebration at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple

The 'Murajapam-Lakshadeepa' festival commenced at Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, marked by a proclamation ceremony. The festival spans 56 days with continuous Vedic chanting and culminates in a grand event with one lakh oil lamps. It takes place every six years, with the next between November 20 and January 14.

The historic Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple witnessed the grand proclamation ceremony for the 'Murajapam-Lakshadeepa' festival on Thursday. The ceremony took place at the temple's East Nada.

Pivotal to the event were members of the erstwhile Travancore royal family, including Gowri Parvathibai, Gowri Lakshmibai, and Aditya Varma, who handed over the proclamation chart to celebrated actor Mohanlal.

The proclamation, read by Mohanlal, announced that the sacred festival would occur between November 20 and January 14. The festival involves a profound 56-day ritual with Vedic scholars chanting daily, concluding on 'Makara Sankrama' day with the illumination of 1 lakh oil lamps.
